I'm not quite sure how to word this, so I apologize if it seems like I'm rambling. I'm currently a senior in university, I will be graduating with a bachelor's in psychology this May. I want to be an elementary school teacher, but all of the positions (even for substitute) that I've looked into require a year experience working with children. I'm not sure what I can do to meet that requirement except for working at an early education center, daycare, nannying, etc. Is there any other way that I can get that experience? I've only taken care of my younger siblings and young children of family friends. Anyone who is currently an elementary school teacher or is trying to be one, what would you recommend or what did you do? Also, if you also didn't graduate with a degree in education, which certification programs did you go through and which programs do you recommend? Any information that you think would be relevant to me is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
I'm currently a sophomore at a tech college and have been developing many thoughts about what I want to do in the future. However, I'm already 21(f) and have changed my major 3 times (nursing/biology/computer science) and have almost 100k in student loans. After lots of self reflection, I realized I really enjoy working with kids and I'm actually quite good at it. Some concerns I have is the salary. On average, what should I expect when it comes to the wages as an elementary school teacher? Is there a way I can possibly get a higher salary (I know of some teachers in the US earning $70k+)? If so, how? I currently live in NJ, am planning to move to NYC in a few years, and then possibly westward America further into the future. Another concern I have is the process of becoming an elementary school teacher. After I get my bachelors in CS, what would I have to do to become a teacher? Would I need to take an extra year for teaching credentials? If I go for getting a Masters, would I still have to take an extra year to become a teacher (total of 3 extra years)?

Adding supplemental training you've attended or teaching methods you are trained in into your resume can distinguish you from other candidates. 4. Apply early.
